Crantock Bay

Crantock Bay sits just south of Newquay, where the Gannel Estuary meets the Atlantic. It is a wide sandy beach backed by dunes, with open water ahead and Newquay’s coastline visible from certain angles.

The beach changes a lot with the tide. At low water, the sand opens out and the curve of the bay becomes much clearer, with the estuary, dunes and shoreline all reading as part of the same landscape. From the air, this gives Crantock a very distinct shape: broad beach, soft dune edges, and strong colour variation in the sea.

This collection focuses on Crantock from above, including views across the bay, the dune-backed beach, and the wider Newquay coastline beyond. The images capture the area’s open scale, Atlantic setting and clear summer water colours, with the beach shape and surrounding landscape doing most of the work.
