Harlyn Bay
Harlyn Bay is known today as a generous, family-friendly beach with surf, sand, rock pools and easy access — but the ground behind the beach holds one of North Cornwall’s most remarkable archaeological stories.
In 1900, building work uncovered a cist grave containing human remains. Further excavation revealed a major Iron Age cemetery, with around 100 graves found in the first season and more discovered over the following years. It is a reminder that these popular holiday beaches have been part of human life for far longer than their modern seaside image suggests.
From the air, Harlyn’s appeal is immediate: a broad crescent of sand, clear water, rocky edges and the route towards Mother Ivey’s Bay and Trevose Head. These prints suit coastal homes, family spaces, holiday lets and anyone who knows this bay well.
