Constantine, Treyarnon & Booby’s Bay

Constantine and Treyarnon sit close together on the North Cornwall coast, but each has its own character: Constantine with its broad sweep of sand, dunes and surf; Treyarnon with its rock pools, tidal swimming pool and tighter cove-like feel.

There is older history in the landscape too. Behind Constantine Bay are the remains of St Constantine’s medieval chapel and holy well, partly held in the dunes. Historic England describes the chapel as one of the largest in Cornwall and an important medieval pilgrimage site, later abandoned as the sand shifted around the settlement.

Where these photographs are taken from

Constantine and Treyarnon sit side by side on the St Merryn coast, and most of these views are chosen to show how they connect: from inland behind Treyarnon looking along the curve of sand to the headland; from the south-east over land at peak low tide, with the coastline layered out to Trevose Head; and head-on from over the Atlantic into Constantine. The reef at the northern end of Constantine appears in several images, both as a foreground and as the thing that gives the bay its edge.

Season and light

The November 2025 photographs are clear-daylight studies of shape: green fields, pale sand, dark reef and a strong blue sea. The March sunrises over Treyarnon come with swirling cloud and a low orange sun. The late May half-term views were taken in unusually hot weather, when the water turned an intense turquoise, and the June mid-tide image of Treyarnon has the clearest colour in the collection.

Choosing a print

Choose Constantine if you want dunes, surf and open sand. Choose Treyarnon for the tighter cove, the rock pools and the tidal swimming pool. Choose one of the low-tide coastline views if you want both beaches and Trevose Head in one picture. Unframed, framed or canvas, printed to order.
