Perranporth
Perranporth is a seaside town on Cornwall’s north coast, built around a long Atlantic-facing beach backed by cliffs and the extensive Penhale dune system. At low tide, the sand stretches for nearly two miles toward Ligger Point, making it one of the largest open beaches in the area.
The town has strong links to St Piran, one of Cornwall’s patron saints, who is said to have landed on this coast and built an early chapel in the dunes. Chapel Rock remains one of the beach’s most recognisable landmarks, with a tidal swimming pool built into the rocks beside it. Perranporth also has a long surfing history, including some of Britain’s earliest locally made wooden surfboards.
This collection focuses on Perranporth from above, showing the scale of the beach, the town behind it and the long lines of Atlantic surf moving into the bay. The images capture everything from quiet early mornings to busy summer conditions, placing the surfers, beach and town within the wider stretch of cliffs, dunes and open coastline.
