Fistral Beach

Fistral is Newquay’s best-known surf beach: a west-northwest facing, 750-metre stretch of sand backed by dunes, bounded by Towan Head to the north and Pentire Point East to the south, and widely recognised as the home of British surfing.

From the air it reads as the start of Newquay’s coastline: the surf lines rolling into the bay, the headland with the Huer’s Hut, and the run of town beaches curving away towards Watergate Bay. The photographs here are taken from above Fistral itself, from Towan Headland looking back over it, and from further along the coast with Fistral in the distance.

These prints suit surf homes, holiday lets and anyone whose Cornwall starts at Fistral. Printed to order, unframed, framed or on canvas, with matching greeting cards and fridge magnets.

Where these Fistral photographs are taken from

Fistral appears from three viewpoints: from above the beach itself looking north to Watergate Bay on a bright March sunrise; from over Towan Headland, the rocky point with the Huer's Hut that separates Fistral from Newquay's town beaches; and from the headland above Fistral looking across the town at sunrise. Crantock Bay, to the south, gives the long view back up the coast with Fistral and the town beaches stacked into one frame.

Tide and surf

Fistral faces west-northwest and picks up more swell than the town beaches, so the March 2026 images show large, textured surf with bands of whitewater moving through the sets. The May 2026 low-tide views open the sand out and put turquoise colour into the shallows around Towan Head.

Choosing a Fistral print

Fistral to Watergate Bay is the one for surfers: the beach, the swell and the whole coast beyond. The Towan Headland views suit anyone who knows Newquay from the seafront. Printed to order, unframed, framed or on canvas.
