Pentire Point & Polzeath

Pentire Point and Polzeath combine surf beach, farmland, estuary views and deep time. This is a coastline where the broad sand of Polzeath sits close to the wilder headlands around Pentire and The Rumps.

The Rumps headland is the site of an Iron Age hillfort, built before the Roman invasion of Britain. Its earthworks can still be seen across the neck of the headland, while Pentire Point gives wide views across the Camel Estuary towards Stepper Point and Trevose Head.

From above, the collection moves between beach culture and ancient landscape: Polzeath’s surf lines, Pentire’s fields and cliffs, exposed headlands, estuary colour and Atlantic weather. These prints work well for larger wall spaces, surf homes, coastal properties and anyone connected to Polzeath, Rock, Pentire or the Camel Estuary.

Where these photographs are taken from

Polzeath is photographed from over the Atlantic looking inland, from the eastern side looking out to sea, and from the north side looking back over the beach and down the Camel Estuary, which shows how the beach sits between open ocean and sheltered water. The Pentire Point images are winter sunrises from offshore, with the headland washed in red and orange. Greenaway Beach, Hawker's Cove across the estuary, Butterhole Beach and the daymark on Stepper Point also appear.

Tide and light

Peak low tide in spring opens Polzeath right out, with the rocks south of the beach exposed and clear turquoise water over them. The June images show the strong summer blues. The March sunset from the beach looks west into rain curtains over the Atlantic.

Choosing a print

For a Polzeath memory the low-tide and summer beach views are the ones to choose. The Pentire sunrises are more about sky and colour and suit a room that wants warmth. Unframed, framed or canvas, printed to order.
