Padstow & Camel Estuary

Padstow and the Camel Estuary are shaped by tide, trade and shifting sand. From above, the harbour, channels, beaches and sandbanks form one of Cornwall’s most recognisable coastal patterns.

The estuary has long been important to shipping, but entry was historically made dangerous by the Doom Bar at the mouth of the Camel. Cornwall Heritage notes that Padstow Haven was recognised as one of the best sheltered ports on the north Cornish coast, while the Doom Bar and shifting sands made navigation hazardous for generations of vessels.

These aerial prints show Padstow from a wider perspective: harbour water, estuary light, sandbanks, Hawker’s Cove, Stepper Point, Rock and the route out towards Trevose Head. A natural choice for homes, restaurants, holiday lets and businesses with a link to Padstow or the Camel Estuary.
